Our culture just gift-wrapped our chance to tell people how, in Christ, LIFE CAN BE DIFFERENT! Over the course of this past month, we’ve experienced the highs and lows of relationships and ministry, which means things are progressing as usual! I’m reminded, as I watch America’s racial and political divisions play out on social media and MSM, that God is in control. He doesn’t sleep. He’s not caught off-guard. He is altogether just and (though we are not) we are called to walk in His ways so that others may know that life can be different! Fact is, when someone disagrees with us, we can tend to get upset, or even wind up hating them or slandering them in our hearts/words (we see it around the world, in our social and political spheres). The same applies to God! If we are more concerned with our opinions than the truth, we will make a god in our image and despise the living God for contradicting US! In Christ, we are loved so completely (and challenged so mercilessly to confront our own darkness) that it’s hard for me to imagine a more complete solution to our troubles in an election year than the gospel! If we see others as God sees them, we will know the great sin of devaluing our fellow image bearers of God. If we believe Christ transforms people, we will trust Him with that work in us and in others. Should we not lead the way in laying down the weapons we attack others with, and trust His righteousness to bring His kingdom in His good time? Just like in America, people in Romania have their differences. Serving others as Christ in this culture is more nuanced than I could’ve known when we came here. But that hasn’t stopped us or slowed us down. We continue to show others that life in Christ can and WILL be different! There is no greater joy that to watch our youth wrestle with the truths of the Word, ask brilliant questions, and have such deep insights. This last month we: had regular youth meetings, talked with youth as often as possible, invested in people we hope to disciple during our time here, Rebeca served some old friends in difficult circumstances and was a great help to her mom’s recovery, David built an Octa-Ball pit (see the video here) and has been discipling a young man, visited a salt mine (which has ministry potential), had a Youth for Christ Romania board and staff retreat, and visited coworkers and served in Târgu Mureș. See these pictures below of our life and ministry this past month! Some things stay the same... I (David) turned 43 this past month. Despite all the social and political turmoil, we are very thankful Rebeca’s mom has been healing nicely, that we’ve continued to grow in relationship with the youth and our coworkers, and that God’s Word continues to remind us who is in control (cheat sheet: it’s GOD!!)! I may be older but life is the same — we’re used to life being different in Christ, when all the world is changing! We are so thankful for those we serve the Lord with, and pray that God will continue to make a way for us to learn from and serve alongside them in the future! Prayer, Praise, People Here's a snapshot of the ministry right now:
SPOTLIGHT: Sorin & Mihaela MihalacheSorin and Mihaela work with youth and their church in the town of Brătășanca, about 2.5hrs from us, and how I wish they were closer! After one week with their beautiful family and the youth in the area, I have a feeling I’d make myself a nuisance if we lived any closer! I’m sure Proverbs 25:17 applies to talking too much as well, so I’ll turn it over to our Spotlight feature this month. Sorin, tell us a little about yourselves and let our people get to know you some! Hello everyone! Thank you David for inviting us to say a few things about us and our work. Thanks so much Sorin, for letting me be a part of the camp this summer and for being our SPOTLIGHT focus this month—I look forward to working with you again, and may God continue to bless your efforts in Brătășanca! Now for our unity questions!
In Their Own Words... (ROMANIAN)
